Welcome to the 2019/2020 Youth Boys Basketball Registration!
It's time for the Mineral Point Boys Youth Basketball program to start another promising year of basketball! Any player (Grade 1-8) wishing to be involved with our youth basketball program must complete this online registration. Practices will be held for the 1st-3rd graders on Saturdays at either the high school or elementary school gymnasiums beginning on Saturday, January 11, 2020. The 4th-8th graders have traveling teams and their scheduled practices will be communicated through the coaches. We will work with the coaches to schedule league games and tournaments with other schools for the older age groups. The basketball season will once again conclude with our annual Dick Poad Tournament on March 21, 2020. This is a fun day for the kids to show parents, grandparents, and friends what they have learned throughout the season.
Practice times and locations for each age group will be posted on our website soon: www.mppointers.com. They will also be conveyed to you through your son’s coach(es). Weather related cancellations will be posted on our website and emailed to the address provided when you register your son online. We are asking that boys participating bring a pair of basketball shoes with them to practice. They should change into their shoes after arriving at school for practice. This will prevent snow and gravel from being tracked onto the gym floor, thus saving the finishing.
The cost of the program is $25.00 for the 1st-3rd graders & $50.00 for the 4th-8th graders playing on traveling teams. This covers the cost of t-shirts and additional costs associated with the program, including the medals and/or prizes the boys receive at the end of the year. The shirts will be worn on the day of our season-ending tournament (March 21st).
We are asking every family to help with at least one if not both of the tournaments that we host. During the online registration process, please mark what you are able to help with. If you are not able to help work, we are asking each family to make a monetary donation to help cover costs. (If this will provide a financial difficulty, please give us a call and we will work something out with you. We do not want any child to miss out on this wonderful opportunity.) Money raised through our concession stands, admission fees for tournaments, and donations go towards several items including medals/trophies, donation to the refinishing of the high school court floor, the wireless scoreboards, new sound system, tournament entry fees for the older grades, and basketballs used in practice to name just a few. So, please, please, please help us out however you can---donate items for the concession stands or a cash donation. It goes back to the program and into the community.
Anyone with an idea for the program, please do not hesitate to give us a call. We are willing to listen to any and all ideas and see what ones we may be able to implement into the program.
Since we are a volunteer group, we do not accept responsibility for injuries or accidents that may occur while at practice or games.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE- next year will be our final year of running the youth basketball program and we are looking for someone new to step up and take things over. If you have any interest, please let us know so we can start to include you in the organizational part of our program. We'd love to make it a smooth transition to the next program directors!
